So you’ve stuffed yourself on holiday helpings and you’ve wallowed in that mucky soup of consumerism they call giftmas, er Christmas, I mean. And maybe perhaps you have been lucky enough to walk away from the spoils sporting a new mp3 player which you can fill with some great Gigatracks music. Well, either way, it’s time to shake off the excesses of the holidays with a little full blown metal brought to you by our friends in Coping With Ignorance. Turn down the lights, pour yourself a glass of something strong and get ready to enjoy this new one called ‘Where Joy Kills Sorrow’ from San Francisco area artist Garrin Benfield. A beautiful piece of folk music that really draws you in with its laid back easy-going sound. Soon you’ll find yourself gently nodding along with your eyes closed. And just when you you’re thinking how sweet this track is, in comes a lead guitar line that brings it all home. For maximum effect, be sure and put it on repeat until that glass is empty.

What’s that sound I hear? It’s another killer hard rock track coming my way in the form of a song called ‘Testimony’ from Hank Madison. Its got a great sound with thick churning guitars and a mid-tempo groove. ‘Testimony’ also has a really great melody to counterbalance the heaviness. Think what it would sound like if Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots took up vocal duties for Helmet and you kinda have the idea. Read the rest of this entry »

The Fire Theft is the latest incarnation of the guys from Sunny Day Real Estate. It’s an on-again off-again band that has broken up and reformed about six dozen times. The problem here is that they make really great music together and thus it makes splitting up quite difficult. But they keep giving it the old college try anyway. Read the rest of this entry » |
