You may be beginning to hear this term bandied about. Or perhaps you’ve seen this Creative Commons is a term used for a new type of copyright license that allows the artist more control over what happens with their works. It basically lets an artist say “Yes I want my music to be able to be shared freely and I allow my music to be remixed by anyone that wants to. All I ask in return is that you give me credit for writing my portion.” It frees you, as the music listener, from any worries about what you can and can’t do with the song. And it always allows more usage than just plain copyright. Think of it as a layer on top of the regular copyright that relaxes many of the restrictions. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, it’s time to rock once again with ‘Invincible’ from Boxing Day. It’s good old-fasioned straight ahead rock. No frills, No glitz, all attitude and continuing in the tradition of bands like Oasis and The Black Crowes. And man does it sound good! Read the rest of this entry »

The Internet has been often touted as being the great distribution medium that finally levels the playing field between indie artists and the major labels. What’s surprising is how many artists aren’t taking advantage of their newfound abilities to reach the public. The other day I sat down to scope out some new music to feature here at Gigatracks. I figured this time I’d try something a little different in my quest for great new music. I’d start out with one of my local music directories and try to focus on some of the artists that are close by. R.U.OK, coming to us from New York, have put out a track called ‘We Watched You Walk In’. Delivering a healthy dose of indie rock, they prove that indie rock and good songwriting and melody are not mutually exclusive, despite what many an indie rock band may try to show you. This song has a flavor of Radiohead, due to the singers voice and heavy use of falsetto, but overall, I’d say it’s more along the lines of Placebo and possibly even Vendetta Red.
