Welcome to the sound of power-pop perfection. And the title of this little confection is Go>-On brought to us by the fine lads known as Madras. They are sharing with us another example of the incredible music that the internet serves up. Great hooks and a really polished sound help to make this song a keeper, but it also is brimming with strong musicianship and a singer with a great voice. Also, the songwrting is top-notch. This track just goes to show you that there are bands out there right now, such as Madras, that are putting out some amazing music that surpasses your typical radio stuff in every way. Don’t skip out on this one!

I’m bringing out something a little different today. We don’t have a whole lot of jazz on the site. As a matter of fact we haven’t had any. Until now that is. And the reason for this is very simple. I enjoy jazz a good deal, however most of the modern jazz that you hear is either redundant and uninteresting or smooth jazz, which, in my opinion is about on par with Muzak , which is to say, just about ready to qualify as cruel and unusual punishment. Have you ever noticed how well family members’ voices blend together when they sing? No? Never? Okay… I’m a dork then. BUT, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s true. Holy brit-pop Batman! ‘Every Page You Turn’ from the band known only as Boy brings together the great elements of bands like Oasis, The Verve and even Coldplay. Okay, so yes they don’t have a very instantly recognizable name, but the music makes up for it in a big way. Gliding melodies and lush thick instrumentation make this an instantly likable track. It has a huge sound due to it’s abundance of strings and B-3 organs. So check out this little nugget for a great dose of brit-pop from the band with the little name, Boy.

Time now for another artist which has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. I found these guys back when Mp3.com was going strong. And as you know, finding much of anything on there that was good was quite a chore, so when I first heard these guys, I knew I had found something special. I’ve been following them for awhile and have both of their official releases and just dig them in general. Soooo…. without further ado, I present Mae’s single ‘Suspension’! How about some chilled-out electronica? Sound good? Well, then we’ve got a treat for you. The name of this track is ‘57 Spring’ and it is one of the coolest chill-out tracks that I’ve heard recently. And don’t mistake chilled-out for sleepy. This track has got groove for days and the flute breaks really make the track shine. Read the rest of this entry » |
