‘Almost Time’ from March is alt. rock done right. It’s yet another really catchy track. Kind of mellow, but just when it gets comfortable, then comes the time change and the chorus which has really nice harmonies to go with the hook. Read the rest of this entry »

OK, let’s get a few things out of the way right to start with. Hum is my favorite band of all time….. ever…. yes really, ever. SO you’ll have to pardon me if I swing from their privates a little on this review. Aphids from Hum is an outtake from their last studio album ‘Downward Is Heavenward’ and it’s as good if not better than what was on that album. But I guess you have to draw the line somewhere and this track got left behind. Well now you can get it from your pals here at GT. Read the rest of this entry »

I had to work hard to get this one so ya’ll better like it, goddamnit!! Remember hip-hop in the mid-nineties? Some consider it the end of the last golden age of hip-hop. Well I can only remember so much because I was only five back then. (Kidding, I am a bit older than that…quite!) Well for those that are old enough to remember (not me of course) artists like 2Pac, WuTang & Biggie Smalls (Notorious BIG) ruled the game along with a certain songstress known as Mary J Blige. Mary cemented her legend by marrying hardcore hip-hop with sultry female vocals. Well it’s a new millenium and Mary is still doing her thing but admittedly doesn’t have the scene on lockdown quite like before. Enter Kymyra with a track that captures some of that old magic. ‘Could Be Worse’ is a feel good little ditty from Bleu. It seems mostly impossible to listen to this track and not nod your head along. And in these days of ‘gloom and doom’ rock-(which I happen to enjoy as well, it’s just getting a little played out. I mean can their really be THAT much to complain about?), ‘Could Be Worse’ blows in like a cold arctic blast. That last part was nice…”Cold Arctic Blast” it’s the kind of crap you normally hear in a review. Perhaps I should write it down in my ‘Book of Cheesy Review Statements’ so that I can use it again later. So anyway, back to Bleu. ‘Could Be Worse’ is off their most recent album entitled ‘Redhead’. They sound a little bit like Smash Mouth maybe or perhaps Train…. only…. better. Read the rest of this entry »

Eyes Around, formerly called ‘Elijah Good Knight’, are coming out of Alabama. This particular track is off their latest E.P. called ‘The E.P.’ Thankfully the songs are more creative than that. They’ve been seen opening up for bands like R.E.M. and Injected. Their sound reminds me a little of Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, or maybe Our Lady Peace. Loud distorted guitars, but still an unplifting feel to the music. Nothing to make you want to rip your friends arm off and beat him with it.

So click on over there on that ‘Download Now’ link and get some more good music. You’ll be spinning this one for awhile.

Nowadays every rapper will swear to you on his (or her) mother’s grave that they are ‘Keeping it real’ as they proceed to tell you that they are harder than Mister T, have layed more women than Wilt Chamberlain, and have committed enough felony murders to get life with no parole 28 times over.  Something tells me that their ‘reality’ is a little out of wack.  On the other hand there is a group out there, Leroy Smokes, that is ‘keeping it real’ in more ways than one: real subject matter, real live performances, and…gasp…real instruments.  Damn this is too good to be true..[sob]..I need a moment..[sob]..can a brother get a tissue?! All right, we’ve been slipping around here a little on the electronica scene. But we are going to start making it up. It’s just that we don’t want to put up any generic techno/trance stuff. It’s got to be something that sounds new and fresh. Something to get the old ears perked up. And so we’ve got just thing thing to fit that bill for you. It’s ‘Love And Darkness’ from Jimmy Cypher collaborating with an amazing programmer going by the name Purefunk. You can view Purefunk’s home page by clicking here. Read the rest of this entry »

Mike Tolcher’s ‘Mission Responsible’ made the cut this week. And when you click that link over there you’ll see why. What a great hook. I really dig the great big bass drum as well. It has just the right amount of electronic elements to keep the track sounding new & fresh. This is a great single. Read the rest of this entry »

Okay party people, Gigatracks is bringing you the exclusive hot butter courtesy of your boy Dante. We’ve managed to get you this fine selection by Nuwamba that you’ll find nowhere else on the web. You can thank my extensive connections and expertise in the blah blah blah [insert toot my own horn obnoxious statements here] blah blah blah….”SHUT UP DANTE!” [says everyone]… uh… sorry. To be honest, I don’t work very hard but sometimes I get lucky and good music just kind of falls into my lap. Read the rest of this entry »

‘See You Again’ from Lapdog is straight ahead rock. No-frills, no chaser, straight rock. Golden melodies and perfect harmonies. A winning combo for a track. I’ve been hearing this song for awhile and I really love it. Read the rest of this entry »
