Switchyard is a band hailing out of LA who reminds me a little of ‘Sixpence None The Richer’, only not quite so saccharine. The thing that really grabbed me first off about ‘Virgins’ was the stunning harmonies that the song has. It’s more of a storytelling-type track that doesn’t have much of a chorus to speak of. So instead of writing a hook to make the song grab you, they just decided to make the entire song grab you. And through the use of those harmonies, I’d say they succeeded.

According to their bio, they started out as a disco cover band and at some point they decided to give it up and write their own stuff. To quote their bio, “The end result is ‘The Secret Life of Spiders’, and it sounds nothing like Donna Summers.” That is very true. You will find no disco here. Only honest songwriting, great vocals and strong lyrics. I know I’ll stick with Switchyard, however I do know some people who love their ‘Disco Inferno’, so, to each his own. Burn, baby burn!
