A whole host of names come to mind when you first hear ‘Now’ by Caleb Engstrom. It sounds a little like Coldplay, Pete Yorn and even a little Sting thrown in there minus all the new-agey tantric crap. What it does have is a somber soul-bearing quality that is most appealing. Sort of like the sound of the world crashing down. A heart-breakingly beautiful piece of music. It’s got a slight bedroom quality to the production which really helps to drive the intimacy of the song home, and as the song progesses the vocal samples buzzing in the background give it a stronger feeling that even when things are coming apart, the world continues on without a second thought…. at least that’s what I thought…. and you’re reading this, so you obviously care what I thought. Or else you’re really REALLY bored. Anyway, if you’re looking for some top-down, fun-in-the-sun, time-to-hit-the-club, looking-for-an-analogy-even-longer-than-the-one-before-this-one, type of music, well then you should probably look somewhere else. However, if it’s the sound of heartache and longing that you desire, then look no further. Our boy Caleb has got you covered. Post a comment
