‘I Know Why, Virginia’ from Fojimoto is a little bit folk, a little alt. Country, a little bit of retro sounding pop. Layers of vocal harmonies churn out golden melodies and the song has a nice feel to nod along to. ‘I Know Why, Virginia’ is reminiscent of an Eagles’ track, perhaps a little R.E.M. or maybe even some Tom Petty, without quite as much rock to it. Fojimoto are from San Francisco, California and the three-part harmonies that you hear on this track are part of their signature sound. They are a completely Do-It-Yourself band that, according to their website, are self-managed with no labels, no agents, no lawyers. What they do have is a great bag of tunes. Fojimoto are a band that relies on strong melodies and great songs to bring them gigs and fans. ‘I Know Why, Virginia’ is a perfect example of why this could very well be their formula for success.
