Oooh, a hard and heavy guitar riff catches you right out of the gate in ‘Once Again’ from Point Defiance. Then the verse comes in and you get a good idea for just how tight these guys are. Heavy melodic rock is the order of the day and ‘Once Again’ serves it up in heaping doses.

You can’t deny the grunge overtones of this band, but they’re from Washington-(Tacoma to be exact) so they get it honestly. Actually in my opinion, most of what is called “Modern Rock” these days is still just grunge, but that’s an “un-hip” term so no one says it anymore. What do you think? But I digress. Back to the review, Point Defiance definitely have the melodic side of the equation down and they can write a good hook as is evidenced by ‘Once Again’. They sound a little like Virgos or early ‘Core’-era Stone Temple Pilots. They aren’t really breaking any new ground, but they are doing the modern rock thing very well.
