‘Slow Burn’ has flavors of various different styles all rolled up into a 3 minute bout of pop goodness. It begins with a nice little lo-fi electronic drum loop before the band comes together with their acoustic-blues-funk-whatever. Forget the labels, it’s good stuff. Picture Jeff Buckley with Eric Clapton playing guitar. Gooding is a three-piece that hails out of Wichita, Kansas, although it seems that ‘home’ is very relative for them. They play about 200 shows a year, so it doesn’t seem that they are very interested in roots, only performing. They’ve had tunes show up on MTV Road Rules/Real World-(which, as you know, is about the only place to catch any music on MTV these days), and they also had music in The Matrix:Revisited. So basically, I had no idea where to stick these guys since their music is very cross-genre. Which is a good thing. So they wind up in pop because the melodies are just so tasty and their groove is rock-solid. Check out ‘Slow Burn’ now. Post a comment
