The Decemberists are an indie rock wet dream of sorts. They are an almost perfect melding of two perennial flagship indie rock bands, Death Cab For Cutie and Sunny Day Real Estate. They also work in a heaping helping of Celtic influence into their music. And I’m hooked!

They’ve got enough jangle in their music to satisfy even the staunchest of indie kids, but they know how to craft a strong hook and write a catchy song. And on top of that, they even manage to accomplish that rarest of feats these days… they manage to sound different from everything else you hear splattered all over radio, yet still sounding GOOD!

They went so far as to have their most recent release, called ‘The Crane Wife’ picked in Rolling Stone’s Top Albums of 2006. And so far, I’d concur with them. I’ve enjoyed the album. After another couple of spins, I’ll probably give a full album review, so watch out for it.

As a footnote on the Rolling Stone article, RS introduced me to a few new acts in their list as well, so I’ll probably be plundering from there for our next few features. Thanks RS!
