I’m quite excited to have come across an Anberlin song to post, because these guys are one of my favorite bands. In fact, they are a favorite around Gigatracks in general. Just look back and check out Bogtrotter’s Picks of 2005. Both of their albums have been fantastic, although the most recent, ‘Never Take Friendship Personal’ (great title, by the way), was absolutely stellar. And you only need to check out ‘Paperthin Hymn’ to see why. Killer hook, top-notch production, sing-along chorus and it rocks your nuts off to boot (Sorry ladies… you’ll have to take my word on this one). And to top it off, the lyrics make the song for me. “August evenings bring solemn warnings to remember to kiss the ones you love goodnight” is just one example. I’m a sucker for great lyrics. Anberlin’s got a heavy, post-punk sound that is all over modern radio these days. The difference is that these guys do it practically perfect. And they make the songs so accessible and singable that you just have to hear ‘em over and over. They’re signed to Tooth & Nail records, which has turned out some great artists. Tooth & Nail also has Mae, which is another of our favorites. So check out Anberlin to see what a criminally under-promoted band sounds like. It’s why you’re here in the first place. Post a comment
